Hill of Banchory Primary to take part in St Ternans Fair

The visit is part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Heritage Fair pilot programme for the Homecoming in 2009.  The pilot programme starts with St Ternan’s Fair on the 14th & 15th June and will continue  with events through the summer and autumn. Banchory’s St Ternan’s Fair (produced by Banchory and District Initiative) was chosen as good example of how a community can work together to promote their own Heritage and Culture.

The Fair began as a medieval fair and market held in honour of the village’s patron saint and attracted people from all over the North East to barter and sell their surplus goods and to promote their skills and business. From the Statistical Accounts we know that some of the St Ternan Fairs had over 600 stallholders attending.

While we can’t promise 600 stalls, there will be a chance for any businesses or budding entrepreneurs to showcase their products or services on the first day of the Fair. To book a place in the Business Showcase, contact info@banchory.org  or tel: 01330 823856, any local businesses will get discounted rates.

On the Sunday (15th), St Ternan’s Fair will stay true to it’s roots by hosting the Continental Market offering fine foods direct from France, and providing fun and healthy activities for the whole family. For information on events and activities for both days, go to www.banchory.org and click on St Ternan.
