Community Views Sought on Proposed Improvements for Signage in Banchory
Aberdeenshire Council has been working on a project to improve signage in Banchory with particular emphasis on the Town Centre. An audit of vehicle and pedestrian signage, information panels and street furniture was carried out in the late summer. The results of the audit and recommendations will be on display in Banchory Library from Friday 18th November to Friday 2nd December. The project team has developed a set of recommendations for improving the signage in the town and they would now like to get feedback from the community before any final decisions are made. The display will involve a series of plans with the recommendations presented visually and a simple, quick questionnaire will be provided to enable the community to give feedback.
The public will have the chance to discuss the recommendations with Council Officers at the Library on Monday November 21st from 2-5pm and Wednesday November 30th from 4-7pm.
The project has been carried out in partnership with the Banchory Town Team, formally known as Banchory Town Centre Improvement Group (which is made up of key community stakeholders and Council Officers). It was agreed that the signage, interpretation and streetscape in and around Banchory Town Centre could benefit from improvements. The fundamental aim of the project is to encourage more visitors and residents to stop and spend time in Banchory, thereby increasing footfall in the Town Centre and the use of local facilities and businesses.
Once the views of the community have been collected, final costed recommendations will be prepared and the works to carry out the signage improvements will be implemented in spring and summer 2017. Depending on the costs of the proposals it may be necessary to take a phased approach to their implementation, with some of the recommendations being actioned in future years if additional funds can be identified.
Please take the opportunity to come and have a look at the proposals and let the Project Team know what you think.
